Off to Paris

Great news i have 4 days off work next week (with pay) . So i have decided to go to my brothers in Paris as i really need a break. I am looking forward to it.

I go on saturday afternoon (after work) and get back wednesday morning. I am going on the bus from manchester. Then i can have a sleep on wednesday afternoon and am back to work at 6.00 am from thursday.

Some friends were over in town last weekend my fiends from switzerland and my friend from York.

So i had a busy weekend going out for food and drinks with my friends.

i am still waiting to hear from a few jobs i applied for and they closed last week.

I have been so busy working at the co=op in the mornings and doing the office job in the afternoon i have just had no time.

It is something like i get up at 5.00am work from 6.ooam to 12 noon get on the bus to the office job work 1.00 till 6.00 and get the bus home and fall asleep.

The office job finished yesterday and today is my day off - yipee.

i think i have worked for at least the last 10 days without a day off. But never mind.

Today i did the morning making cookies and the afternoon in the temp office job. Its all a bit of money so i will keep going.

i got paid from the co op job this morning and OMG i have paid a lot of tax. my tax code must be wrong. so i took home less than i expected. I will get a tax rebate after april so at least i will get it back

a few of the jobs i applied for close in the next week so i hope to hear something from one of them

i have not heard anything new from the ones i have applied for to date. Gosh it is so frustrating.

I have not had time time post anything because i have 2 part time jobs now, and have been working a lot of hours.

I am doing morning at the supermarket (6.00 to 12.00) and afternoons in an office (1.00 to 5.00).

The office job is just for 3 weeks but it is a bit of etra money. The job is inputting data into the computer system for people who have enquired for information to be sent to them.

i have felt sick and ill for the last few days and i seem to have slept for many hours.

well i got some feedback from the wildlife consultancy job i recently applied for. There were 170 applications and i did not make it to the interview list. Wow that was a lot of applications.

i have applied from another animal keeper job to cover for maternity cover, for 3 months, so i hope i may have some chance with that one.

i have been at work for the last 6 days and now i have 2 days off which is nice.

One of my close friends have just managed to get a new job after being made redundant a couple of weeks ago so i am very pleased for him.

I have just applied for a helpline advisor for the bat conservation trust. Di dyou know there are 18 species of bat in the uk? i di not know this until a few hours ago.

The job is in london but it sounds quite good. The closing date is not till the end of feb, so i will have to wait a while before i hear anything or nothing.

i went out friday with the boys down town. Just for a catch up and a few beers. However at 5.00am on saturday morning i wished i had not. I did go to work and did eveything i was supposed to but it was more difficult than normal as i was tired.

Saturday night i went to see another friend in another pub. Why do a lot of my friends seem to always want to meet in a pub? anyway it was good to catch up with him and his wife.

I walked home in the snow (which was quite cold) i was home early 11.00pm and got up this morning at 6.00am to go to work and i felt fine.

I have the afternoon off which is nice i am going to have a rest and apply for a couple of jobs that i have found. One at a zoo in the town i grew up in (as a primate keeper) and one at a small wildlife consultancy business who want another consultant. So seeing as i used to be a consultant i might be in with half a chance.

brighton tattoo convention 1

It was a great show definately one of the better ones. There was a lot of good artist there and a few people i knew. The bar was good and so were the bands.

I met my friend the tattoo artist from brighton and it was great to see her. I firmed up my next tattoo idea with her and will probably have it in the summer.

I also my another artist who i really respect and he has agree to do me some work in the summer as well.

I just need to save up a bit.

I have booked to go to the brighton tattoo convention, as a bit of a treat for myself to cheer myself up.

I have decided to go on the train. I go saturday afternoon and come back sunday evening.

Today is my day off, so i plan to chill out a bit and paint a couple of radiators and doors and do lots of washing. Oh yes and apply for some more animal jobs - i have found 7 that i want to apply for.

I need to get up at 5.00am tommorow to go to work at the supermarket.

not good news and i am sad about it.

i heard yesterday that i have not got an interview for the copenhagen job. i thought it was a long shot.

I also heard yesterday that i have not got an interview for the job in holland - i am really disappointed in this because they e-mailed me about the 2 vacancies they had and asked me if i wanted to apply, so i applied for them and now they have not even given me an interview. what was the point of them bringing the vacancies to my attention ?!

My brother is coming over from Paris on thursday and my sister is coming over from blackpool on friday.

It will be nice to catch up with them. I will be seeing them both on friday night.

I am working saturday morning and then driving to brighton ( a long way) staying overnight and then going to the brighton tattoo show on sunday and then driving back to manchester on sunday night and then working at 6.00am on monday morning.

i worked on saturday at the supermarket and also did some gardening at my mates.

i worked again at the supermarket this morning (it seems to be all i am talking about at the moment)

i am also working in the morning (monday) so an early night for me. I am very tired.

will be going to the bank next week to move the mortage to an interest only with the option to pay off some capital when i am feeling flush. I think i will keep the house on the market to june and then if it has still not sold rent it out. at least then i will have the spring early summer to see if the agent can find any buyers.

Have been at the supermarket today and then i went to my mates in bolton to do some of his gardening.
I took some cookies that i made this morning and they were really really good.

I got an e-mail reply from the aquarium in Norway today and they have offered the job to someone else. Thats a shame, i would have liked that one.

Digging the garden all afternoon has made me very tired, so an early night for me i think.

Hmm i might go to brighton next weekend. There is a tattoo show on and i would like to visit it. Lets see.

Yes i still feel ill today but not quite as bad as i though i would. but i had a long sleep (12 hours in total) so i am sure that helped.

I applied for a job today as a manager at a small animal/wildlife park - lets hope i get somewhere on that one.

The good news is i have got extra work at the co-op this week - baking more donuts and cookies etc etc.
They want me to work wednesday to sunday so i said yes. Thats good.

I had a good couple of days baking at the co-op. It is quite fun really.

I dropped a donut and burnt some sausage rolls yesterday but today has all been ok.

I am not working for the next few days so i can do other things.

Today i bought an apple pie that i baked this morning and i have to say it was very very nice.

i have been to disney in Florida a few times (11 in total) and my favourite part is is the magic kingdom. At night they light up the castle and have some fireworks which are great.

it is actually quite fun baking bread and cookies. It was my first day at the co-op and i enjoyed it.

getting up at 5.00am this morning was not too hard.

i worked from 6 am till 12 noon - that is my main shift.

tommorow they are going to show me how to works the tills! i am not looking forward to that quite as much but i am sure it will be ok.

i am about to apply for a management job at a musuem in london that also has a live animal section.

i am quite tired as i hard worked hard but i will be ok tommorow.

just before xmas two jobs i had applied for contacted me and said they may call me after xmas as they had some interest in my application.

they have not rang yet but may do next week.

one is for a managers job at the aquarium in bergen in norway (that would be a great job)

i went to see the bank again today to find out more about my mortage. I have to pay too much each month. I am not on a good rate (3.75%) at the moment.

my current bank have offered me a better rate (3.15%) and will let me move to an interest only mortage - with the option to pay extra each month when i have a good month. so that is worth thinking about.

another bank has advertised a better deal (2.39%) which works out at £60 per month difference, i have an appointment with them next week to talk it over. it sounds a good deal but i would rather not have the hassle of changing banks.

I got a call from the manager at the local co-op this morning. Just for an update.

I have my induction on the 10th jan (next tuesday) and start at the supermakert on thursday 12th Jan. Next week I will be working thursday, friday, saturday and sunday morning. So that is not bad.

Here is the story so far. Since i started looking for a paid job with animals (which was july 2010):

I have applied for 44 animal related jobs.

6 of these i am still waiting to hear from as i have only just applied for them.

So that means I have applied and the results are in for 38 animal realated jobs.

Out of these 38 applications I got 2 interviews.

Out of these 2 interviews i did not get any job offers.

Gosh it is hard but i will keep trying!

(obviously i have not counted above the non animal related temporary jobs i have applied for as they are only to fill in until i get an animal related job. If you are interested i have applied for 6 non animal related temporary work jobs , out of these 6 i got 3 interviews, out of these 3 interviews i got 2 job offers. As you know i did one job at the college in december and i start at the local supermarket next week)

well today we had even less to do at the college than yesterday.

I met up with a couple of friends for the beer train and it was a good do.

We went to marsden, slaithwaite, huddershfield and dewsbury. We had a drink or two in each one but it was spread out so we were not too drunk.

I then got the train back to leeds and then from leeds to accrington. I got home about 11.00pm (via the nags head in accrington)

It is only part time but they will want extra hours here and there. So it will tide me over.

I have got 2 job interviews lined up for the end of this week so that is good.

Neither job pays more than the national minimum wage but if i got offered either job i would take it as it is better than nothing and will pays my bills.

On friday i have an interview at a north west bookmakers, the job is working in their shops and taking bets and paying out bets. The job is supposed to be in blackburn but they do ask you to stand in at other branches to cover for sickness and stuff. That would not be a problem.

On saturday I have an interview at the small co-op supermarket in my town. The advantage is that i can walk there within 5 minutes. The job is working in the bakery and general shelf topping up and working on the till. My next door neighbour works there now but she is leaving for health reasons so she told them that i was looking for a job (which was really nice of her) and she bigged me up, so they have invited me for an interview.

if i got offered one of those jobs it would tide me over, i know it is not animal related but i need to earn some money in the meantime whilst i am still looking for animal work.

Well my next door neighbour works in the local co-op supermarket but she is just about to give it up.

She has put in a word for me with her boss, who is going to ring me tommorow to meet up for an interview.

Although it is not what i really want it is work so i will take it for the time being if they offer it to me.

Work at college in the library mon to fri all day long so each night i got home i was quite tired.

Went to the quiz in the local pub on wednesday night which was good.

Met up with my mate rob on thursday night for a few beers but was home by 9.00pm.

Stayed in friday night and did some research for more jobs.

Got my hair cut on saturday afternoon and met with most of the local gang on saturday night for a game of bowling and amasingly i won, so i got the prize of a bottle of wine. Whoohoo. Got a pizza on the way home and got home at 9.30pm to eat my pizza and drink my wine and watch a film.

On sunday i have applied for a couple more jobs then went out for an hour or so to catch up with my mate rob.

Stayed in sunday night and watched the x factor final - not as good as previous years.

Well..............

last thursday the couple who came round last week put in another offer. They offered £175K this time. my response was.................errr..............how can i put this....................NO!

They will have to try much harder but i think the are looking in the wrong bracket.

On saturday afternoon another couple came round who want to move to the area, they have 4 children and seemed very nice. They liked it.

so lets hope they think about it properly and put in the right offer

Lets go back to last thursday. My mate was working near the college so i got a lift home with him. We went to the pub at 5.00pm for a pint. I actually got home at 1.00am. Opps!

Went to work on friday morning feeling fine (surprisingly). We finished work early then i got the train to bolton to meet another friend. We stayed in and had a few beers and some nice food and went to sleep at 1.00 am. Opps again!

On saturday he drove back to accrington as i had to meet my mum and my sister (from blackpool) for lunch. That was nice.

On saturday evening i went out for dinner with my friend from switzerland who had just flown in for the weekend. It was great to see her and we had a nice meal. I actually went to sleep at 11.30 pm so that was better.

Today being sunday, i am not doing a lot, sorting out a few bills and doing some washing.

had another good day at the library. we have packed all the books and took down all the shelves in one of the rooms - we have another one to do but it is smaller.

i get the day off on wednesday as the staff are on strike. i dont mind really. i can do other things that day.

my CRB clearance came at the weekend, so thats good, to have the clearance already will make it easier to get a job as they wont have to wait for the process to clear as i already have it.

Its a nice sunday morning but it is very windy outside.

Have just completed an application form for an animal keeper job at a college in staffordshire.

It would be good to get that one. The closing date is the 30/11/2011 so lets see if i hear anything in the next couple of weeks.

the offer is not right................

well the people who came to see my house really liked it.

They have put an offer in through the estate agents.

The house is now on at offers in excess of £175K and the agent told me they offered........... wait for it............. £168K.

Yes i rolled about laughing on the floor as well. Since when is 168 in excess of 175? i think they missed the point.

A few years ago the house was valued at £250K it was last on with the other agent at £210K, if you do an internet search it values the house at £230K. So £168K is absolutely insane.

Of course i told them no, the people are clearly in the wrong league, why are they looking at a £200K house if they cant afford to get a mortgage for that?.

Forget them... lets hope someone more sensible comes along.

had a good week at work but am tired.

good news is they want me to work an extra week so i now have work till the 21st december.

that is good and then i go to the isle of wight on the 23rd december.

still looking for a job starting in Jan 2012

I just showed a young couple round my house. They came on tuesday for a look and then tonight for another look. I think they really liked it!

Another good day at work in the library. I am very tired though, we had to carry some heavy stuff from one room to another and it was quite a long work. so i am now just sat on my chair resting my legs!

Am working again tommorow but i finish at 3.00pm which is great.

So i will go out with bob tommorow night for a few well earned beers.

i rang the job centre today to sign off benefits. Seeing as i now am working i have to sign off even though it is only temporary work for 1 month.

so it seems likely that i will have to sign back on in 1 months time..............

i can hardly wait........................

missing norway

This time last year i was in Randaberg, Norway helping on the organic farm. I had a great time there. I am missing that and hope the family over there had a good year and that they and the other friends i made are all well.

i can hardly believe it has been a year, it has gone so quick yet it seems a really long time ago.

i started work on monday at the college in the library. It is nothing too exciting but we are helping them move.

I have enjoyed the last couple of days and earnt a few quid but i am very tired and aching in all sorts of places. ha ha.

It is back breaking work but i am not complaining.

I have not heard anything for the 5 recent jobs i applied for. boo hoo.

will keep looking

I have been looking into animal courses so that i can build my experience and add to my CV.

As a starting point i have looked at on line courses, either

Primatology - diploma

Zoology - diploma

Both courses cost about £300 and can be done in about 6 months. Whilst i would prefer the primatolgy one the zoology one covers a wider range of animals so would probably be better - but i am not sure

i just can not decide at the moment...

went out last night with the lads, just down town for a few beers and got a pizza on the way home.

It was a good night and good to catch up with them all. I was not late home and i only had a couple so no hangover today for me.

Had a good night with my mate at bingo on friday. i won £30 and he won £120 which we shared. I had a few pints of beer and a very nice chinese meal. All in all i only spent £15 on the night so that was great.

I went to the college today and earn £15. I attended the manual handling course ready for the work i am doing next week for them. The course was ok, very similar to the one i had in Spain in June.

There are 4 of us doing the work two young lads, me and one blonde girl/woman who has promised to do the dusting of the shelves. Hmmmm......

I went to the emergency dentist yesterday and got a temporary filling. I also got some antibiotics (for free with my HC2 certificate). I have an infection under my tooth. It does however feel a lot better today already.

The dentist said i need a root canal (which sounds painful) so i now need to find a dentist that will take me on as an NHS patient, my regular dentist will not do so and they only do private work and not NHS work. Crazy i know but there it is.

will have to wait to find out

well i went down to the RSPCA but when i got there they gave me an application form to fill in (which i am part way through) and then the closing date is not till early december so it will be a while till i find out about that one.

I have just applied for a job with the RSPCA in scotland so lets see if i get anywhere with that one.

i got up this morning thinking that i should go down to the local RSPCA to volunteer so that i can keep my hand in at working with animals. Although they only have dogs and cats and rabbits it is at least something and of course it is good to help those animals as they have been abandoned.

i went to the job centre for my interview at 9.00am and blow me down there is a full time job at the local RSPCA (in my home town) that they advertised last friday afternoon so i will apply for that.

i am in the library at the moment , so i am going to go home in a minute to print out a CV and go down to the RSPCA office this afternoon to apply.

i had a good time with my mate at weekend in blackpool.

we went on friday night and got back sunday afternoon.

it was a bit of a marathon we went out at 12.00 noon on saturday (to the pub) and left (the pub) at 1.00 am in the morning.

surprisingly i did not have much of a hangover on sunday

yes indeed i got a free eye test and 2 pairs of glasses are being made for me and i dont have to pay for them as i am on benefits. That is just great this must be one of the first things i have got back from the system.

just been to the nurse for the final injection (that sounds a bit terminal doesn't it) what i mean is that it is the last one of a course i had to take to cover me for when i work with monkeys in Europe. I am protected against most things now. Not rabies, it was not necessary and also i believe it is quite horrible so i am glad about that.

I am just about to go to the glasses people and get some new glasses, as i am on low income (at the moment) i am supposed to be able to get them for free. that would be great it is good to get something out of the system seeing as i have paid so much in for the last 25 years. Lets see if i can get them for free.

jobs, jobs, jobs or should i say applications, applications, applications?

i went to see my old boss and an old colleauge (not that they are old , i mean i used to work with them). there is a possibility of a little short term work (1 month or two months) in the new year but it depends if they can afford it. The market place is hard at the moment so they need to decide whether they wish to invest money in getting this project done. They will let me know in a couple of weeks. They also very kindly invited me to xmas dinner in december, i will of course go but it depends if i am working at the local college on that day or not.

i applied for 2 jobs yesterday one as a full time keeper for a zoo down south (in the uk) and one as a short term project (3 months) working for the national environmental research council. This project is about analising and reporting on the impact of some of the projects they having been working on.

i also found one other job to apply for at another zoo down south (in the uk). the job is a primtate keeper. I will apply for that in the next day or so. I have not heard anything from the any of the others that i applied for in october.

it is good that i found 3 new jobs to apply for, as the last couple of weeks have been a bit lean.

i got £138 of benefits on monday (that is two weeks worth of benefits)
i won £25 on the premium bonds yesterday
i got a £10 rebate from united utilities because the water went off at home for a day last month

gosh i am not sure what to do with it all?

i spent the last 2 days cleaning and tidying the house up...............

the new agent came this morning to take the photos. i found the EPC certificate and have sent in my forms of ID to the agent. so all is go for them to put the house up for sale next week!.

lets hope it works this time and that any offers we get for the house are reasonable.........

There were no new vacancies that i was interested in last week but i need to hold steady and stay focussed otherwise i will end up falling back into the rat race which i really dont want to do.

There is a keeper job just advertised this weekend so i will apply for that and also i found a temp converstaion project management job so i think i will apply for that as well.

oh yes the crown i had stuck back in last week has fell out again and this time i swalloed it. thats a bugger so i will have to go back to the dentist.

power washing is fun

Spent most of the day yesterday power washing the paving in the back garden and down the side of the house. It was enjoyable.

Spent most of friday doing the front garden, so the outside of the house looks good now.

The new estate agent called me this morning, they are going to put it on the market next week, they are coming on thursday this week to take photos - lets hope they can get some serious buyers through the door.

I jsut spoke to the TB specialists secretary and she is going to ask him to write me a letter next week which proves i do not have TB. I am not sure he will do this without seeing me again but we will wait and see. I need the letter for the next job i get with animals.

I have sick for the last 2 days but i feel better today - no sure what it was it is just i felt like being sick all day long. Strange.

I have to go to the nurse next friday for my last injection for the course i had to enable me to work with animals so that should be ok.

There have been no jobs advertised to work with animals for the last week on all the websites i look at (every day) so that is a shame maybe it gets quiet at this time of year.
